RECREATION SERVICES IN AREA E - WHO PAYS FOR WHAT?
The answer to this question depends on where you live in Area E, these are called 'Defined Services' which means only the properties located within the defined area pay into a particular RDCK service.
RDCK services operate independently in the sense that they cannot lend or borrow money between them - so the each operate with their own budget.
REC 10:
If you live in Balfour, Harrop, Procter, Longbeach or Queens Bay, you pay into Recreation Service S279 Rec 10. This service provides recreation grants to area non-profits and societies within this service area. This service is mostly funded through Community Development Grants but there is a very small amount on your tax bill which is only a few cents. You do NOT also pay into Rec 5, RDCK Service S226, which includes the Nelson Recreation Complex in Nelson.
REC 5:
If you live in Bealby Point, Mountain Station or Blewett, you pay into Recreation Service S226 Rec 5 which includes the Nelson and District Community Complex and operations of the Ice Arena in the Nelson Civic Center. This service costs participating properties 0.536 per $1,000 of your property assessment total value. The calculation for the annual fee is: Total Property Value / 1000 x RDCK rate per thousand. For example, a property located within this area having a value of $750,000, would have paid $402 (before any grant) in 2024.
